| Coffee from the Bruschetta cafe in Surry Hills |
It's been a pretty hectic week getting back into uni. Who knew that orientation and sorting out timetables doesn't get any easier after five years? I've met some great people though and I'm pumped to get stuck into learning how to teach.
Another thing that's been on my mind has been how much food evokes certain memories, emotions and feelings. It can be as simple as a waft or one bite and everything comes shooting back. Most of them are good, actually all of them if I think about it are good memories. Some psychologist will probably explain it in some fancy commonsense theory but meh.
So what are the foods that bring up the memories for me?
Bacon and eggs- the smell of the fat and grease meant that it's a weekend. Lazy sleepins, coffee and no school, no work. What can get better than that? Brinner is always a winner too.
Black coffee- the harsh taste brings up the time I spent on exchange in Ijuin, Japan when I was 15. This was the way coffee was served in the staff room during the winter. No sugar, no milk.
Cold barley tea- any time I drink this at the Sussex Centre food court for 50c I'm instantly transported back to Japan. Hot, humid summer days spent on family picnics, festivals and carnivals. For some reason my friends here in Sydney add 10 spoonfuls of sugar but it loses its authenticity and it's not refreshing anymore.
Fine dining is wasted on me. This is probably as close as you're going to get in terms of a foodie blog post from me. Although I will probably do a fast food post in the future with a break down of the pros and cons from each place. The burgers are better at hungry jacks.
| Degustation at Assiette |
My thoughts on Assiette's degustation? Too long, too much wine, uncomfortable chairs. Some courses were amazing but give me some crispy bacon, a gooey egg, some toast and a coffee and I'm good.
I'm sure everyone has an opinion on food considering we all have to or are at least supposed to eat 3 times a day. One mate doesn't touch fruit or veges. One eats food in layers or by food type on their plate. I don't do seafood. Who's normal these days anyways?
